NFL Trade Deadline 2025: Three Players Who Should Be on the Move
The football season is flying by as the NFL’s trade deadline rolls around on Tuesday.
While the NFL deadline is never quite as active as the NBA or MLB, in recent years, there has been an uptick in madness on the final day for trades.
Both the NFC and AFC have holes – meaning there’s plenty of opportunity for teams to improve and make a genuine run at the Super Bowl this season.
Let’s take a look at three surprising players who should be on the move and their best fits.
Jaylen Waddle
The Miami Dolphins are the NFL’s biggest disappointment.
They’ve already fired general manager Chris Grier and barring some sort of unforeseen turnaround, head coach Mike McDaniel is probably next.
According to reports, the Dolphins are listening to offers for Waddle. While the asking price for the talented 26-year-old receiver is likely a first-round pick, it might be worth considering for a playoff caliber team that feels like they are one big threat away from contending for a Super Bowl.
The Dolphins need to fully lean into waving the white flag. Tyreek Hill has probably played his last game with the Dolphins and they should probably find a way to move off of Tua Tagovailoa’s massive contract. An extra first or second round pick will help kickstart the rebuild.
Best fits: Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants
Breece Hall
Sticking with the trends of talented offensive players on bad teams, Breece Hall needs to get the hell away from the hapless New York Jets.
The Jets have one win in a season that wasn’t thought to be a rebuild. While trading wide receiver Garrett Wilson seems unlikely, the Jets should move on from Hall.
Hall is averaging five yards per carry this season. He’d instantly provide some pop to any contending backfield.
Best fits: Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots
Trey Hendrickson
It’s officially time to pack up Cincinnati’s defense. It stinks with or without Trey Hendrickson, who is one of the best pass rushers in football.
After an awkward offseason, the Bengals worked out a one-year deal to bring Hendrickson back to Cincinnati. But the defense has been completely atrocious, allowing opponents to score over 30 points in each of their last three games.
The Bengals need more draft picks so they can field an actual NFL defense. Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco is proving that when Joe Burrow is healthy, the Bengals have one of the most lethal offenses in the league headlined by Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
But the defense is really bad. And while trading the best player on it might seem counterintuitive, the Bengals aren’t doing anything this year and need to actually build it up the right way.
