One NFL Draft Expert Really Thinks Cam Newton's A Dick

Pro Football Weekly is one of the more trusted draft guides, and their player evaluations are generally respected. Some of that means going into a player's character, good and bad. Nolan Nawrocki touches on the positives —"confident, charming and charismatic...Highly competitive and plays with passion. — and then gets to the negatives. (Emphasis ours.)

Negatives: Played in a simplified, run-first, dive-option read offense with very basic high-low reads. Worked exclusively out of the gun and was very quick to run at the first flash of coverage. Limited field vision - does not process the passing game. Inconsistent throwing mechanics with a flick delivery - generates all of his power from his upper-body strength and too often arms the ball. Streaky passer with spotty accuracy. Makes his receivers work hard and throws into coverage. Does not spin a tight spiral. Very disingenuous - has a fake smile, comes off as very scripted and has a selfish, me-first makeup. Always knows where the cameras are and plays to them. Has an enormous ego with a sense of entitlement that continually invites trouble and makes him believe he is above the law - does not command respect from teammates and always will struggle to win a locker room. Only a one-year producer. Lacks accountability, focus and trustworthiness - is not punctual, seeks shortcuts and sets a bad example. Immature and has had issues with authority. Not dependable.

Kind of shocking to see it written out that bluntly, and it has the faint ring of opinion. And yet, no one's disputing that it doesn't describe Newton to a T — they're just wondering about the relevance of going so personal. It's not a new debate, the usefulness of character evaluations. The Cowboys looked past possible red flags on Dez Bryant, and now there are some issues that they're going to have to deal with. The Dolphins, who first inquired about Bryant's past, won't have that problem.

It all boils down to whether Newton's talent is enough to put up with the possible headaches that might come along with him. For some teams, that's a dealbreaker. For at least one, it won't be.
