Devils tough guy Cam Janssen was on a St. Louis radio show earlier this week, and he was incredibly honest and open and funny and then he went and said this:
Janssen: "There's some shit-talkin' that goes down that pisses some people off. There's a lot of personal shit, man, like, guys know personal shit. ... You wanna get in people's heads to get them off their fuckin' game and don't get me wrong, you don't wanna go too deep with shit because we all have our issues here. Let's be honest."
Host: "But if the guy was suckin' cock four weeks ago, you're gonna let him know about it?"
Janssen: "Oh, if he's suckin' cock, he's gettin' his ass kicked." [laughter]
People are angry, and they ought to be, but it's assumed that Janssen is saying he would taunt or fight or fuck with a player just because they're gay. But what if—just what if, man—he's speaking from a broader, third-person perspective, and pointing out, completely objectively, that in 2012's NHL a gay player would probably and unfairly be given a hard time? He'd better say he is, because if that's not the way he meant it, he's a wannabe gay basher or at least a guy not smart enough not to make jokes about being one.
