Padres Deny That Man With Binoculars In Center Field Was Stealing Signs
The man in a San Diego Padres polo holding binoculars in the center-field wall during Sunday’s game was not stealing signs, according to a spokesperson for the team. He was a security member.
During Brett Wallace’s at-bat in the bottom of the ninth, Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina pointed out the man from home plate. The Fox Sports San Diego broadcast cut to the man in question, who listened to the cameraman next to him, realized he was on TV, and moved out of view:
When asked why the security member had binoculars, the team spokesperson said that they were used to monitor goings-on at the ballpark.
