PSG Threaten To Sue M.I.A. For Wearing Modified Jersey In Music Video
M.I.A., no stranger to sports-related lawsuits, has been threatened by French soccer club Paris Saint-Germain that, unless she removes scenes of her wearing the modified PSG jersey above from her “Borders” music video, the club will sue her for damaging their reputation.
Here is PSG’s letter of notice, which the singer posted on Twitter earlier today:
M.I.A. has described the “Borders” video as a reflection of her support for the refugees caught up in Europe’s migration crisis. As the PSG letter notes, the presence of their jersey could be read as an indictment of the club’s Qatari owners, as a comment on the deplorable conditions migrant workers face there. M.I.A. posted a picture of herself in the jersey on Instagram following the letter and offered her own explanation for wearing the shirt:
