Ranking Top 10 2024 NFL Schedule Release Social Media Videos
Every year, NFL social media teams have made the schedule release a big annual tradition.
While the schedules typically get leaked online before the formal announcement, it’s always fun to see what each team will do to throw shade at opposing teams while getting their fanbase juiced for the upcoming season.
Let’s rank the top ten NFL schedule release videos.
10. Kansas City Chiefs ASMR Trend
The Chiefs did, literally, crush it last year. This was a creative play on a viral trend and I was happy to see Kansas City go this route instead of trying to make some sort of corny Taylor Swift pun.
9. Baltimore Ravens Employ Comedian Stavvy Halkias
Halkias is a notoriously loud Ravens fan, and this video fit his chaotic brand incredibly well.
Jim Harbaugh even made an appearance in this video, as Stavvy traveled all the way to Los Angeles just to inform the Chargers’ new head coach that John was the preferred brother by Mr. and Mrs. Harbaugh.
Halkias did not even unveil the entire schedule, and just told people to Google the rest of it, which was very random but again, fits his personal brand very well.
8. Steelers Players Try To Make James Harrison Laugh
James Harrison was a notoriously mean-faced, ferocious defender. So Pittsburgh’s social media team put their players to the test in an attempt to see who could crack Harrison and make him laugh.
Despite jokes from countless players, Russell Wilson finally got him to crack at the end, where they unveiled an image of their schedule.
7. New England Patriots Dupe “Good Will Hunting” With Julian Edelman
While Ben Affleck must’ve been too embarrassed to associate with the Patriots after bombing at Tom Brady’s Netflix roast, Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, Jerod Mayo and Ernie Adams did a great job recreating this classic trailer.
6. Washington Commanders Recreate “Is it Cake?”
“Is it Cake?” is one of the most frustrating TV shows, as bakers create hyper-realistic cakes and put them next to actual objects. I never know if it’s cake or not.
So the Commanders leaned into this, cutting into a realistic cowboy hat cake and countless others to unveil their schedule. Pretty creative spin on a viral show.
5. Chicago Bears Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is one of the best movies ever. With the film based in Chicago, the Bears ran with an opportunity to play into Caleb Williams’ “freshman” year in the NFL. Cameos by influencers Annie Agar and Emily Zugay with rapper Yung Gravy was a really good way to appeal to a younger generation, too.
4. Eagles Fans Get Psychological Evaluations
Everyone knows that Philly fans are nuts. So they had a doctor give their fans actual evaluations by showing them photos of their opponents’ logos. It’s fair of them to say that some of these lunatics would not pass a real evaluation, so it’s a good thing this was satirical.
3. New Orleans Saints Interview Social Media Interns
The Saints leaned into one of my biggest pet peeves with this video. Some people think a single intern is capable of running every social media platform for massive American sports teams. That’s never the case.
So the Saints “interviewed” candidates, including their own RB Alvin Kamara, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport and UFC star Dustin Porier.
The video brilliantly ends with the interviewers dismissing all of the candidates and deciding to just use artificial intelligence to create their social media posts, including a whacky, AI-generated version of their schedule. Really well done.
2. Cleveland Browns Tap Legendary Bowler Pete Weber
I was initially confused as to why the Browns decided to go with a bowling theme, but I was so thankful that I stayed patient until the very end. After watching Browns players including Deshaun Watson and David Njoku bowl to unveil their opponents in order, legendary viral bowler Pete Weber arrived to tie the entire production together.
“Whoever you think you are, I am!” Weber exclaimed in the Browns-themed bowling alley.
Tying a viral, legendary moment into this video is what schedule releases are all about.
1. Los Angeles Chargers Sims-Inspired Schedule Release Video
The idea was just okay, but the Chargers always do a phenomenal job of shading their opponents and toeing the line of what might be too edgy for an NFL team to get away with.
The Chargers are currently going viral for putting Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker in the kitchen during this release video, after Butker’s controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College dominated the news these last few days.
