When it comes to NBA legends, few names resonate like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Now, two of their most iconic game-worn jerseys are hitting the auction block — and they could each sell for up to $10 million, according to experts.

Jordan’s Jersey Sets a New Record — But Falls Short of Expectations

This red #23 Bulls jersey holds historic value: it was worn by Jordan during his very first preseason game on October 5, 1984 — and several times leading into his rookie season. It’s also the only authenticated game-worn jersey from that period ever offered at auction. Even more remarkable? It’s signed by MJ himself.

The Sotheby’s auction, held from March 12 to 26, 2025, closed at $4.215 million. While that’s a huge return — especially considering it sold for just $66,000 in 2009 — the final price still landed well below the projected $10 million. Still, it now ranks as the fifth-most expensive NBA jersey ever sold. All eyes now turn to Kobe’s.

Kobe Bryant’s Rookie-Era Jersey Could Shatter Expectations

Coming up next: the #8 Lakers jersey worn by the late Kobe Bryant during his first preseason and regular season games (1996–97), as well as his first Media Day in LA. The jersey is packed with early career milestones — and collectors are ready to bid big.

Back in 2012, this exact piece sold for just $115,242. Today, that price seems like a steal. With only a handful of authenticated rookie jerseys in existence — and the added emotional weight of Bryant’s tragic passing in 2020 — this auction is expected to cross into multi-million-dollar territory.

Stay tuned. This one could make history.
