Former Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald was arrested this evening by Santa Clara (Calif.) police for violating a restraining order. The restraining order was issued in connection with an incident that occurred two days ago, when McDonald was arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence and child endangerment charges, after he allegedly struck a woman who was holding a baby. Here is the Santa Clara Police Department statement about the latest arrest:

On Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at about 2:52 PM., Santa Clara Detectives learned Ray McDonald violated a restraining order for being at a residence in Santa Clara. Detectives later located Ray McDonald at a nearby Togo’s Sandwiches, 2203 Tasman Dr. in Santa Clara. Ray McDonald was arrested without incident and transported to Santa Clara Police Department for processing. He will be booked at Santa Clara County Jail.

The restraining order Ray McDonald violated was issued as a result of his earlier domestic violence and child endangerment arrest which occurred in Santa Clara on May 25, 2015.

This is an on-going investigation and further information will be released when it is available.

For those not in the know, Togo’s is a mostly California-based chain of sandwich shops that have kick-ass Orange Julius machines.

This arrest is just the latest in a year of legal troubles that McDonald has faced. He was arrested on domestic violence charges last August, but the charges were eventually dropped, and in December he was investigated but never charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault. He has filed a defamation suit against the accuser in the sexual assault case.
