Report: High School Basketball Star Actually A 29-Year-Old Man
The Catholic Central High School boys basketball team, located in Windsor, Ontario, has a pretty good player in Jonathan Nicola. The 6-foot-9 center is so good that his coach put together the workout video above, because, as he told the Windsor Star last year, Nicola had a shot at going pro. That dream is probably dead, though, because Nicola is apparently a grown-ass man.
According to the , Nicola, who is from South Sudan, has been arrested for violating the Immigration Refugee Protection Act, and is believed to be 29 years old. For the last six months, Nicola has been posing as a 17-year-old student, and was even living with his basketball coach.
Nicola isn’t the first prep star to lie about his age, but he may be the most brazen. A 20-year-old pretending to be 18 is one thing, but ball really must be life for a 29-year-old man who would look his coaches and teammates in their faces and say, “Yeah, man, I’m totally 17,” right before dunking on some poor freshman.
Assuming he eventually gets clear of his legal trouble, Nicola probably has a decent rec-league career ahead of him. That jumper in the video above is pretty nice, even for an old guy.
