Mandatory Credit: Jerome Miron-Imagn Images Texas Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a sports hernia, DLLS Sports reported.
Eovaldi was shut down in late August with a strained rotator cuff after vaulting into contention for the American League Cy Young Award, finishing the season with an 11-3 record and a 1.73 ERA in 22 starts.
Rangers general manager Ross Fenstermaker confirmed last week that Eovaldi was heading to Phoenix to visit a hernia specialist.
The typical recovery timeline for a hernia procedure is six to eight weeks, giving Eovaldi enough time to begin his offseason throwing program on schedule.
Eovaldi, 35, is 102-84 with a 3.89 ERA in 316 career games (297 starts) over 14 seasons with six teams. The two-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion signed as a free agent with Texas in December 2022.
