Rescuers Save Driver After Truck Crashes Into Evan Turner's Swimming Pool
Photo: Marcio Jose Sanchez/ [object Object] The driver of a semi truck carrying a dumpster filled with dirt had to be taken to an Oregon hospital with “serious” but non-life threatening injuries after he crashed into the swimming pool of Portland Trail Blazers guard Evan Turner this morning. A team of at least eight rescuers worked to save the driver from the pool, as the driver was pinned down in the cab while the truck was partially underwater.
The rescue of the driver, who reportedly lost control while trying to make a hairpin turn in Portland’s West Hills, was pretty intense. From The Oregonian:
Portland Fire & Rescue Bureau rescuers scrambled down a hillside after the crash, reported at 8:49 a.m., to reach the driver’s cab which was partially submerged in pool water, said bureau spokeswoman Capt. Louisa Jones.
While at least one rescuer held the driver’s head up from the water, others used the “jaws of life” to pry the damaged steering column from the center console which had pinned the driver inside the vehicle, Jones said.
Turner, who has a truly breathtaking house, said that he “wasn’t aware that the driver was injured or how badly.” However, Turner’s chef reportedly kept the driver’s head above water for 10 minutes until the first responders arrived.
