Robin Yount Shot Dale Sveum In The Ear While Quail Hunting
Baseball's winter meetings haven't been a huge source of excitement so far this year. The Nationals made a splash by signing Dan Haren, but the big names like Josh Hamilton and Zack Greinke are still waiting to be snapped up, and no blockbuster trades have happened.
Maybe that's a good thing, though, because it has allowed stories like this one, about how Hall-of-Famer Robin Yount recently shot Cubs manager Dale Sveum in the ear, to come to our attention. The accidental shooting happened while the two were hunting quail together, as Sveum explains to the Chicago Tribune:
"He pulled the trigger, and I was like, ‘Uh oh,'" Sveum said. "Luckily I was just kind of climbing, looking for birds myself when it was behind me. So I got drilled with pellets in the back and one stuck in my ear."
Sveum had to have the bee-bee removed from the ear. He said it was a "bloody" scene, but he wasn't at all nervous.
Does "climbing" mean that Sveum was up in a tree when Yount shot him? We hope so, because that is a hilarious image that we want to keep in our heads forever. And points to Sveum for being such a cool customer about being shot, even though he didn't get the full Dick-Cheney-shootin'-guys-in-the-face treatment.
Sveum also asked the media to not overplay the incident, as he didn't see it as that big of a deal. We'd love to honor your request, Dale, but we need something to talk about. Any way you could help move that rumored Justin Upton trade along?
