Someone Should Just Blow Up The Orlando Magic At This Point
In the ongoing Dwight Howard-Stan Van Gundy bitchfest, there is only one true solution: just get rid of everyone. Trade Howard. Fire Van Gundy and general manager Otis Smith. Then sell the team. Until then Orlando will have a superstar who does not want to be there being coached by a coach who does not want to be there, employed by a general manager who doesn't know what the hell he's talking about—all enabled by an owner who has long since ceded any power he may have had to control this circus.
GM Otis Smith, in refuting his coach's claim that Dwight Howard asked management to fire Van Gundy, unwittingly provided an apt description of the whole nonsensical mess:
"He never asked me; I didn't have that knowledge," Smith said.
Van Gundy said Thursday he knew Howard, the Magic's franchise player, had asked that he be fired. Smith said both parties were to blame for the public dispute.
"If he did ask he's wrong, and for Stan to address it in public, that is wrong," Smith said.
It is impossible to understand what any of that means. You're better off throwing up your hands and just waiting for it to finally end. Howard didn't do it. Otis Smith didn't have that knowledge. If Howard did do what Otis Smith just got finished saying he did not do, it's wrong. Stan should not have addressed it in public. Like Otis just did.
To recap, either Howard is a liar, Van Gundy is a liar, Otis Smith is a liar or someone high up in the front office other than the general manager is a liar. Whatever the case may be, get rid of everyone involved and get this mess off my television. GM Otis Smith speaks out on feud [ESPN]
