Steve Spurrier Says Marcus Lattimore Dislocated His Knee, Thinks He Can Come Back [UPDATE]
Steve Spurrier met with Marcus Lattimore Sunday morning and said the junior running back's spirits were not dampened by this devastating injury. Spurrier informed the press that Lattimore suffered a dislocated knee and "South Carolina team doctor Jeffrey Guy was able to put Lattimore's knee back in place soon after he was taken from the field to the hospital."
Spurrier said the injury was significant, but discounted speculation Lattimore would never play football again. Lattimore has not used a redshirt season so he could take as long as necessary to recover and still return to the Gamecocks for the 2014 season.
"We're optimistic his football days are still ahead of him," Spurrier said. "There is a history of guys coming back from this."
Update: 6:45 p.m.: The University of South Carolina has released a statement indicating that Marcus Lattimore injured "several" ligaments but did not suffer a fracture.
University of South Carolina junior running back Marcus Lattimore suffered a significant impact to the front of his right knee during the Tennessee game on Saturday. The ensuing hyperextension of the knee resulted in injury to several ligaments. There were no fractures or additional injuries, according to team physician Dr. Jeffrey Guy. Lattimore's surgically repaired left knee was uninjured during the play.
