Tennis Player Has the Right Attitude About Tennis: 'It's Just Tennis'
He’s number 1, get it? Tennis’s self-styled bad boy Nick Kyrgios, who seems to (like the fun players of the 1980s before him) spend more time delightfully trash-talking his competitors than hustling, had a Great Take on a match Thursday night.
Once a sweetie who could barely wrap his head around the fact that he’d knocked Nadal out of Wimbledon, Kyrgios has spent the past few years acting every bit of the youth he is (he’s 20). But last night, after Kyrgios beat Milos Raonic at the Miami Open, bringing him to his first Masters Semi-Final, he said something almost wise:
“If anything, I’m not taking it as seriously. At the end of the day, it’s just tennis. I’m just going out there and trying to play.”
It’s just my livelihood. Nice. Also very easy for a winner to say.
