TCU is currently sleepwalking through the second half of a seismic blowout over Texas in Fort Worth. Texas, despite almost scoring an upset against Oklahoma State last weekend, is at a true low point. It’s not entirely (or even mostly) coach Charlie Strong’s fault, but he is feeling the heat after a soon-to-be 1-4 start, and the program is, at best, unhealthy. I mean, look at this shit from freshman CB Kris Boyd.
The Longhorns’ special teams unit has been especially exemplary of the program’s decline into punchline fodder. Consider their almost comeback against Cal that was dashed by a missed extra point late in the fourth quarter or their dropped snap on a punt against the Cowboys. Today, things stayed bad, real bad.
It began with a long snap, that was snapped too long, right over punter Michael Dickson’s head and out of the end zone for a safety. He then shanked the following kick out of bounds.
Kicker Nick Rose is also 0-2 on field goals. Texas also got a penalty called on them for “disconcerting signals,” which is apparently a real infraction and not a late-career Wire album. TCU, meantime, racked up 30 in the first quarter and QB Trevone Boykin broke Andy Dalton’s school touchdown record. Those uniforms are still a crime against optical nerves though.
