Texas soars to No. 1 for first time since 2004

The Longhorns (26-2) have a 10-game winning streak and claimed 19 of the 31 first-place ballots in Monday's poll. Texas last held the top spot on Feb. 16, 2004.
Former No. 1 Notre Dame (24-3) slipped two places after Sunday's 104-95 double-overtime loss to North Carolina State (22-5), which vaulted four spots to No. 9.
Eleven first-place votes went to No. 2 UCLA (26-1) and one to No. 4 Southern California (25-2).
No. 5 UConn (26-3), No. 6 South Carolina (25-3) and No. 7 LSU (27-2) held steady. No. 8 North Carolina (25-4) rose one spot and No. 10 TCU (26-3) followed the Wolfpack.
The Southeastern Conference has seven teams in this week's poll, followed by the Atlantic Coast Conference with six and the Big Ten and Big 12 with five each.
