The First Jose Canseco Joke Known To Mankind
It's easy to forget that Jose Canseco used to be a baseball player of some distinction and not just a social media punchline. Which got us thinking, how long has this been going on? When did the tide start to turn against the Worcester Tornadoes' newest outfielder?
As far as we can tell, the movement goes back more than 22 years, when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hit theaters in March 1990. Canseco was still two years away from cameoing on , and he was still beating the hell out of opposing pitchers. (In fact, one could argue that Canseco was about to have the two best statistical years of his career, outside of 1988.) And yet, a sullen Raphael, tussling with Casey Jones during an otherwise typical Manhattan evening, seems to have set us all upon an irrevocable path of hug-centric business models, Al Gore death rumors, and motivational hokum. Thanks a lot, Raph.
