Three High-Profile Head Coaches for Michigan To Replace Sherrone Moore
The Michigan Wolverines are going to be in the market for a new head coach after firing Sherrone Moore on Wednesday afternoon.
Moore was terminated for cause after an investigation found substantial evidence about an inappropriate relationship with a member of his staff. After being terminated, Moore was detained by police in Michigan responding to an assault call – he remains in custody without charges while the investigation proceeds.
This is a horrific look for Michigan, who is now plagued with yet another scandal.
The Wolverines should be targeting a high-profile college football coach. While Moore was probably an unfit replacement for Jim Harbaugh, Michigan will now have to distract fans and recruits from the public fallout from his firing and arrest.
Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer is a name that will resurface. But here are some other big-named replacements that can distract from the ugliness of this situation if the Wolverines wanted to lean into a full-blown side show.
Brian Kelly
Kelly quickly fell out of favor with LSU. He was unable to live up to their National Championship winning expectations.
However, the name certainly still carries weight across the college football landscape.
If the Wolverines want to lean into the villain role after the Connor Stallions sign stealing scandal and now Moore’s inappropriate relationship and arrest… Kelly would be their man.
Deion Sanders
The Colorado Buffaloes had a treacherous season, winning just three games after Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter graduated to the NFL.
Getting hired at Michigan would certainly be failing upwards, there’s no denying that Sanders brings a rabid, passionate built in fanbase.
While rostering Sanders at quarterback and Hunter at wide receiver and defensive back certainly helped, Coach Prime undoubtedly turned around Colorado in a short amount of time.
Hiring a coach after a three-win season in the Big 12 would be a head-scratching look traditionally, but there’s no debating that Sanders could eradicate some of the drama and bring some of his own distractions away from the scandals currently plaguing the Wolverines.
Bill Belichick
Want to get crazy? Let’s get crazy!
The two coaches listed above are dealing with their own failures in college football, but so is the 73-year-old head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels.
The Wolverines would be insane to look at Belichick, especially considering the dumpster fire that North Carolina has been on the field and off of it.
But again, there’s no denying that it would be a shiny object for the media to chase instead of worrying about the previous skeletons in the closet.
