Tiger Woods Caddies, Splits Early, Gets No Tip
Who was that caddying at Torrey Pines on Monday? Tiger Woods? Yep, it's true. He was lugging the clubs for 59-year-old New Jersey pressman John Abel, to whom I would have paid a princely amount to just once say to Tiger: "I said a five-iron, dumbass!" That would have ruled. Actually when I say "lugging the clubs," I of course mean that Tiger was driving a customized golf cart. And when I say he was caddying, I mean that he was shooting a promotional video for Buick (they're still in business?), which sponsored the "Tee It Up With Tiger" sweepstakes which Abel won.
Abel played only the back nine of the South Course, and Woods left the course soon after finishing at around 10:30 a.m. “I wouldn't trade this for anything,” a beaming Abel said afterward. “This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.” Woods has not swung a golf club fully since winning his 14th major championship in the Open. He had surgery one week later to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, and he has said he will not return to tournament play until sometime next year.
Actually, no offense to Tiger, but my once-in-a-lifetime round of golf would have been with Rodney Dangerfield. "Whoa! Did somebody step on a duck?" Tiger Woods Hits Torrey Pines Again, As A Caddie [San Diego Union Tribune]
