The trade deadline is less than two months away, but July 30 is closing fast for teams looking to make roster adjustments and climb up the standings for the stretch run.

Here is a position-by-position look at the best trade candidates ahead of the deadline:

C Elias Diaz, Rockies: Last year’s All-Star Game MVP posted career highs in hits (130), doubles (25) and RBIs (72) in 2023 and is having another strong campaign. Plus, the 33-year-old plays on a last-place team and is a free agent after the season.

1B Pete Alonso, Mets: Will the Mets be sellers again? If so, the 29-year-old slugger could be on the move before he’s slated to become a free agent. The 2019 NL Rookie of the Year and three-time All-Star reportedly declined a seven-year, $158 million extension last summer, so teams may view him as a rental -- but what a rental.

2B Luis Rengifo, Angels: A consistent, versatile switch-hitter who can also play shortstop, third base or the outfield, he’ll likely hit about 15 homers and 50 RBIs. The 27-year-old will be arbitration-eligible for the last time this offseason, which is enticing for potential suitors.

SS Bo Bichette, Blue Jays: The 28-year-old is set to become a free agent after next season, and with Toronto struggling to stay afloat in the AL wild-card race, it may behoove the Jays to move the two-time All-Star for prospects if they don’t feel they can keep him long-term.

3B Alex Bregman, Astros: It seems strange to view the Astros as possible sellers, but if they can’t turn it around by the deadline, the two-time World Series winner could be shipped. Set to hit free agency this offseason, the 30-year-old two-time All-Star is enduring a tough season but likely has plenty left in the tank.

OF Luis Robert Jr., White Sox: He’s missed most of the season with a hip flexor strain but is the team’s best trade chip. Sporting MLB’s worst record, Chicago should be looking to the future, and trading Robert -- who is owed $15 million in 2025 with $20 million club options the following two seasons (each with $2 million buyouts) -- would bring back a massive haul.

OF Jazz Chisholm Jr., Marlins: Miami’s already traded Luis Arraez, so why not Chisholm? He’s only 26 and is making just $2.6 million with two years of arbitration eligibility remaining. He’s also been injury prone but has averaged 28 homers and 32 stolen bases per 162 games, so the high ceiling is enticing.

OF Kyle Tucker, Astros: GM Dana Brown doesn’t expect to be a seller, but if Houston is out of it, he may change his tune. The 27-year-old Tucker, a two-time All-Star having an MVP-caliber first half but is arbitration-eligible in 2025, would be high on any contender’s trade list.

SP Tyler Anderson, Angels: An All-Star in 2022 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the veteran left-hander is posting another solid season on a last-place club and would be a welcome addition to a team eyeing a solid starter. He’s in the second year of a three-year, $39 million deal, and the Angels could eat some of the salary to make a trade happen.

RP Kenley Jansen, Red Sox: While Boston remains in the AL wild-card mix despite numerous injuries, the club is expected to move on from the 36-year-old right-handed closer before the deadline. A pending free agent, Jansen is making $16 million and will likely have his share of suitors.
