Mandatory Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports Spencer Torkelson went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run, Parker Meadows also homered and Ty Madden pitched effectively in his major league debut as the visiting Detroit Tigers defeated the Chicago White Sox 6-3 on Monday.
Detroit outhit Chicago 13-6 to cap a four-game sweep of the White Sox, who lead baseball with 101 losses.
The Tigers outscored the White Sox 33-13 in the series.
A five-run seventh propelled Detroit. Meadows started the rally with a leadoff home run against Jared Shuster (1-3). Jace Jung added an RBI single later in the inning before Torkelson, celebrating his 25th birthday, greeted Justin Anderson with a three-run blast to center field.
Eight Tigers starters had a hit. Colt Keith and Jung both had two hits and an RBI.
Dominic Fletcher and Brooks Baldwin contributed two hits apiece for Chicago. Andrew Benintendi added a solo shot.
Sean Guenther (1-0) picked up the win with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Tyler Holton worked a perfect ninth for his fifth save.
Chicago capitalized on shaky Detroit defense to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Luis Robert Jr. drew a one-out walk from Madden, advanced to third on Torkelson's error at first base and scored on Andrew Vaughn's sacrifice fly.
Vaughn made it 2-0 White Sox with a two-out, run-scoring single in the third. Vaughn has collected two RBIs in three consecutive games.
White Sox starter Davis Martin allowed baserunners in three of his first four innings but escaped unscathed.
He couldn't avoid trouble in the Detroit fifth, but limited damage nonetheless. After retiring the first two batters, Martin allowed three consecutive singles, with Keith driving in the Tigers' first run with the last hit in the sequence.
Martin fanned Jung in a 10-pitch at-bat with two runners in scoring position to end the threat.
Martin allowed one run on seven hits in five innings, with one walk and four strikeouts.
Madden threw 52 of his 87 pitches for strikes. He yielded two runs, one earned, and four hits in five innings, with three walks and two strikeouts.
Shuster allowed four runs and four hits in 1 1/3 innings.
Keith extended his hitting streak to nine games.
