The men's varsity hockey team at the University of Ottawa has been suspended indefinitely, as the school and police investigate "allegations of serious misconduct" on the part of multiple players, reportedly involving an alleged "gang sexual assault" on a single female victim.
The incident reportedly occurred weeks ago, during an away series in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The team's most recent trip there was on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. It was reported to university officials by a third party on Feb. 24, and they informed police the next day. According to the Sun, the alleged victim is an acquaintance of one of the players, and is not cooperating with police.
No arrests have been made, and the university offered no details in a statement this morning beyond announcing the team's suspension. The school will hold a press conference at 2:30 this afternoon. The Citizen's Matthew Pearson is providing live updates from the presser.
