A Minor League Team Was Two Feet From Disaster

As the old saying ought to go, nothing good comes from taking a wrong turn to Staten Island.
The Williamsport Crosscutters are in town to play the Cyclones, and after last night's game at Coney Island, they piled on to the team bus to head back to their Brooklyn hotel. (For those wondering where Short-Season A teams stay, it was a Holiday Inn.) But a wrong turn sent them over the Verrazano bridge to Staten Island. Upon trying to re-cross the bridge, the bus struck an SUV and plowed into the guardrail, coming to rest with a front wheel dangling off the overpass.
"Two more feet to the left and it would have fallen down onto the Expressway," a witness told the . "It was definitely their lucky day."
There were only minor injuries, including among players who scrambled out of the bus windows to safety. But the Crosscutters are back in Brooklyn today for a rematch.
