AP: Nicklas Backstrom Missed Gold Medal Game Due To Failed Doping Test
Swedish reports stated that center Nicklas Backstrom wouldn't play in the gold medal game against Canada due to migraines. But other reports suggest Backstrom missed the game after testing positive for something during doping test.
The AP reported that according to a Swedish Olympic official, Backstrom missed the game against Canada because of his failed doping test. Via Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo Sports, Backstrom reportedly took an allergy medication that caused him to test positive and infringe upon the anti-doping rules. A few brands contain pseudoephedrine, a substance banned by the International Olympic Committee.
Sweden missed Backstrom's presence, losing 3-0 to Canada and taking silver.
