Arizona Gov. Vetoes Intolerant Bill, Quiets Super Bowl Relocation Talk
Arizona governor Jan Brewer struck down an amendment to the Religious Freedom Restoration Act Wednesday night, dashing the possibility that Super Bowl XLIX wouldn't be held in Glendale.
SB 1062 had been passed by the Arizona House and Senate, despite being terrible and easy to manipulate. The bill would have given businesses the right to refuse service to anyone based on religious beliefs, however intolerant they may be. The NFL and Arizona's Super Bowl committee both strongly opposed SB 1062, and didn't rule out the idea of relocating Super Bowl XLIX somewhere else if the bill had been passed, but Brewer's veto tonight put that hypothetical to rest.
