The Serbian star claimed his 101st career title with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory in just under three hours. Djokovic traded service breaks with the Italian in the 10th and 11th games of the final set before closing it out with a love hold.
Musetti needed to win this tournament to leapfrog Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime and claim the eighth and final slot at the year-end championship that begins Sunday in Turin, Italy.

American teenager Learner Tien captured his first ATP Tour title with a thrilling 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (6) victory against No. 7 seed Cameron Norrie of Great Britain in Metz, France.
The 19-year-old Tien struck seven aces and saved seven of nine break points to win in two hours and 10 minutes. He lost his only previous final to World No. 1 Jannik Sinner at the China Open in September.
Norrie battled back from a 4-1 deficit during the deciding set to force the tiebreak, where Tien turned the tables by rallying from a 5-1 deficit and claiming the trophy on his second match point.
