Auburn Beats Top-Ranked Alabama
Photo: Brynn Anderson/ [object Object] The Auburn Tigers earned their biggest win in almost exactly four years this afternoon at Jordan-Hare Stadium, defeating Alabama in the Iron Bowl with a comprehensive performance ending in a 26-14 win.
Auburn’s defense were the stars, throwing Alabama QB Jalen Hurts off his rhythm all game and holding the Crimson Tide to 3-11 on 3rd downs. Additionally, the Tigers’ transfer QB, Jarrett Stidham, turned in a confident, flawless day, going 21-for-28 on his passes with no interceptions, plus 51 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson carried the load as well, with 30 rushes for 104 yards and a touchdown. Johnson also opened the scoring on a Wildcat jump pass that capped off an early 95-yard drive.
The Tigers now head to the SEC Championship in Atlanta, where they’ll play a Georgia squad they already destroyed just a few weeks ago. Nick Saban and Alabama, meanwhile, will have to sit at home next weekend and hope that Wisconsin or Oklahoma loses in their respective championships, opening up an extra slot in the playoff for the 11-1 Crimson Tide.
