Mandatory Credit: John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports The Milwaukee Brewers signed free-agent right-hander Elieser Hernandez to a one-year major league contract on Saturday.
In corresponding moves, the Brewers optioned rookie right-hander James Meeker to Triple-A Nashville and moved left-hander DL Hall (left knee sprain) from the 15- to 60-day injured list.
The Los Angeles Dodgers had designated Hernandez, 29, for assignment and then outrighted him from their 40-man roster on Wednesday. He chose free agency rather than his Triple-A assignment. He was 0-1 with an 8.38 ERA, three walks and six strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings over five games (one start) for the Dodgers this season.
In parts of six seasons with the Miami Marlins (2018-22) and Dodgers (2024), Hernandez is 10-22 with a 5.15 ERA, 97 walks and 283 strikeouts in 297 1/3 innings over 95 games (49 starts).
Meeker, 29, has appeared in one game for the Brewers and allowed one hit and one walk in one scoreless inning.
Hall, 25, has not pitched for the Brewers since injuring his left knee while fielding a bunt on April 20. He tweaked the knee again on May 23 during a rehab start for Nashville.
Hall had an MRI exam on May 27 and had a June 6 consultation in Los Angeles with Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the team said.
"(Hall) got a second opinion," Brewers manager Pat Murphy said on Friday. "He decided to go with the first opinion and build up. He's back on the rehab program we had him on."
Murphy said that ElAttrache proposed a non-surgical option -- a platelet rich plasma injection that would have kept him out until September, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report. Instead, Hall will continue his rehabilitation with the Brewers.
Hall is 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA, 10 walks and 13 strikeouts in 16 1/3 innings over four starts in his first season with Milwaukee. He was 4-1 with a 4.36 ERA in 29 games (one start) with the Baltimore Orioles in 2022-23.
