Chicharito Fractures Collarbone, Could Miss Gold Cup
Mexico will be without their starting striker for much of the Gold Cup. During last night’s friendly against Honduras in Houston, Chicharito left in the 40th minute after suffering an apparent fractured collarbone. Chicharito was fouled while tracking down a wayward pass, landed on his shoulder awkwardly, and immediately called for the doctor. He was later taken to a Houston-area hospital.
Mexico’s three Gold Cup group matches take place on July 9, 12 and 15, and it seems all but certain that he will miss them. The final is on July 26. Various unconfirmed reports have placed his recovery timetable anywhere between two and eight weeks, though the team hasn’t officially announced anything.
