Chris Heston Threw His No-Hitter In Front Of His Little League Coach
Here’s a neat story to go along with Giants pitcher Chris Heston’s unconventional no-hitter. One of the people in the crowd at Citi Field last night was a guy from Florida named Brad Thomsen, who happens to have coached Heston from little league all the way through high school.
Thomsen had never seen Heston pitch in the majors before, but started planning a trip to New York after seeing the Mets on the Giants’ schedule. He made the trip from Florida, crashed at a friend’s place, and watched Heston pitch from a few rows behind the Giants’ dugout. Afterwards, he went into the clubhouse with Heston and talked to a few reporters. Did he cry? Of course he cried ( via ):
“Oh, man. I had tears in my eyes. My blood pressure, my heart rate was up in that ninth inning. It was so surreal out there.”
Dawwwww.
