Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-Imagn Images Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby completed all 15 of his passes for 253 yards and five touchdowns as the host Bearcats posted a 70-0 rout of Northwestern State on Saturday afternoon.
It was a dominant day for the Bearcats, who punted only two times.
The Bearcats (2-1) made the score so one-sided that coach Scott Satterfield and Northwestern State coach Blaine McCorkle agreed to shorten the third and fourth quarters to 10 minutes each, from 15.
Northwestern State (1-2) has lost its past two games by a combined score of 136-0 after recording a season-opening victory that was its first program win since November 2022, snapping a 20-game losing streak.
Despite the shortened quarters, the Bearcats scored a touchdown in both in the second half.
Eight Bearcats scored touchdowns on Saturday, with tight end Joe Royer and wide receiver Isaiah Johnson each scoring two.
Six Bearcats rushed for over 20 yards, with Tawee Walker leading the way with 66 yards and a touchdown on six carries.
The Bearcats raced to a 35-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, with Sorsby's five touchdown passes coming in the first 15 minutes. He added 39 rushing yards and a touchdown on two carries, giving him four rushing TDs and eight passing touchdowns for the season.
It wasn't just a dominant performance from individual Bearcats players. As a team, they outgained Northwestern 605-102 in total yards and had a 27-6 advantage in first downs.
This is Cincinnati's highest point total since Sept. 3, 2011, when they scored 72 against Austin Peay, and it is the Bearcats' most lopsided win since they beat Kentucky Wesleyan 115-0 in 1921.
The Bearcats head into their bye week before opening Big 12 play at Kansas on Sept. 27.
