Cloud9 first team to 2-0 at LCS Lock-In
YMCA member Austin Manengu works the keyboard as he plays a game of Fortnite during the unveiling of the new gaming lab at the Maplewood Family YMCA in Rochester Thursday, June 20, 2024. YMCA of Greater Rochester in partnership with Metro Sports & Entertainment Group will open two gaming labs for youth and teens this year. Cloud9 is locked into the playoffs at the League Championship Series 2026 Lock-In in Los Angeles.
But their work is far from over.
Cloud9 swept LYON 2-0 in the first Round 2 high match on Saturday, advancing to the Round 3 high match to compete for the top seed in the playoffs of League of Legends' first event of 2026.
Using a Swiss style format with three rounds, the matches are best-of-three, except the last-chance tiebreaker is best-of-one. After the three rounds, the 3-0 team will choose its opponent from among the three 2-1 teams for the upper bracket. The 0-3 team will be eliminated.
Among the trio of 1-2 teams, the one with the best game record will auto-advance as the fifth seed in the lower bracket. The remaining two teams will compete in the last-chance tiebreaker to claim the sixth and final seed in the playoffs.
The playoffs will be double-elimination, with all matches best-of-five. The overall winner qualifies for the 2026 First Stand Tournament.
Because they can finish no worse than 2-1 in the Swiss stage, Cloud9 will qualify for the tournament.
Cloud9 beat LYON in 45 minutes while playing on red and in 37 minutes on green. Jesper "Zven" Svenningsen of Denmark led Cloud9 with a 10/4/6 kill/death/assist ratio.
In Saturday's Round 2 low match, Sentinels got by Dignitas with a 2-0 sweep, winning in 30 minutes on red and 28 minutes on green. South Korea's Cho "Rahel" Min-seong posted a 10/1/22 KDA while Isaac "DARKWINGS" Chou went for 11/2/18 in the win.
Now at 1-1, Sentinels and LYON will compete in the Round 3 mid matches. Dignitas will face elimination in the low match in Round 3.
Up next for Cloud9 is the winner of Sunday's Round 2 high match between FlyQuest and Disguised in the Round 3 high match to determine the top seed in the playoffs.
