MLB uniform controversy; Scott Boras finally succeeds; Trouble brewing for USWNT?

Michael Wacha source: Getty Images While see-through pants have been the talk of spring training so far, that might not matter as much to fans (at least non-evangelical ones, Woe to Cardinals Nation), as fans don’t tend to want to buy the pants the players are wearing. Maybe you’ve got use for baseball pants in your everyday life, and I’m not here to kink-shame. But it’s the jerseys that have fans a little more in a tizzy, because fans like to wear the jerseys they see on and in the park. Given that everyone knows how Fanatics works, and you’re just as likely to be shipped a dead chupacabra as you are the Julio Rodriguez jersey you ordered. So when the new duds looked like….well, duds (so very sorry) upon unveiling in Arizona and Florida, fans knew they were probably going to get something even worse for themselves. And that’s before we even get to how garbage it just looks on TV as a presentation. - Sam Fels Read More
Finally, one of Scott Boras’ strays finds a home
source: Getty Images Even though spring training is now in full swing, games are being played and every player is hanging dong unintentionally, the major story in MLB remained the four Scott Boras clients that had yet to sign a contract. That number dropped to three, as Cody Bellinger will be fostered by the Cubs, who took him in last year, for up to three years but possibly no more than one, if Bellinger feels after the 2024 season he has a better chance of finding a forever home. That leaves Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery and Matt Chapman still in the Boras shelter. - Sam Fels Read More
Is trouble brewing for the USWNT?
source: Getty Images It’s been mostly quiet on the Western front for the USWNT since last summer’s World Cup full-body dry heave. A couple of friendlies to send off legends, a couple more to close out the year with no stakes, and an easy start to the Women’s Gold Cup last week with resounding wins over the Dominican Republic and Argentina. But in this current iteration of the USWNT, there’s always a rake somewhere nearby. - Sam Fels Read More
NHL could learn from new women’s hockey league playoff and draft formats
source: Getty Images The PWHL has accomplished a lot even though it’s only been in existence for a few months. It has set records for attendance. It has sealed the cracks in women’s hockey that had formed. It has given momentum to women’s hockey below the international level, which had been stuck in neutral thanks to splits between groups and leagues. - Sam Fels Read More
In defense of bad officiating
source: Getty Images I’m not going to list all of the polarizing topics people argue about on the internet because there’s not enough time in the day, and I typically avoid thinking about things that make me want to chug paint thinner. There’s so little human beings can agree on that we need at least one evil force to unify against, and that force, my friends, is officiating. - Sean Beckwith Read More
