College Basketball Bets Today: Gonzaga, Virginia Tech in Key Tournament Matchups
The Virginia Tech Hokies are playing for the NCAA Tournament, while the Wake Forest Demon Deacons are playing spoiler. It’s a relatively simple process, and if Virginia Tech loses, they’re likely out. If they win, they have a real chance at finding one of the last spots.
There are three key spots where I give the Hokies the edge that should help them find the win. First, offensive rebounding. Both teams struggle, ranking low in the ACC in opponent offensive rebounding rate. The difference is that Virginia Tech can produce offensive rebounds themselves, while Wake Forest doesn’t.
The Hokies also have two distinct ways to score tonight. First, they’ll be able to get to the line at a higher rate, giving them an edge over the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest also wants their opponents to shoot from deep, and Virginia Tech quietly has several strong three-point shooters.
This is an interesting spot because Wake just played spoiler against California on Saturday, and they have the chance to do so once again. That game was at home, though, and I prefer the bubble team to find a much-needed win in this scenario.

Gonzaga -6.5 Spread
The Santa Clara Broncos and Gonzaga Bulldogs will face off in the WCC Tournament Finals tonight. Santa Clara is technically a bubble team, but they likely locked their spot in March Madness with their win over Saint Mary’s last night. Gonzaga is locked into the tournament, but they’re playing for seeding, and the difference between the 3-line and 4-line is massive this season.
The Zags are good in most of the areas Santa Clara struggles. The Broncos dominate with turnovers and offensive rebounds. The Bulldogs feature an elite turnover rate, and they don’t give up many offensive rebounds.
This game is likely to be played possession to possession, and the difference-maker will continue to be Graham Ike. He’s one of the best bigs in the NCAA, and he can draw fouls. Santa Clara is a team willing to foul, and the Zags can get them into foul trouble if Ike is attacking.
The big issue here is that Gonzaga is already 2-0 against Santa Clara this season, and it’s difficult to beat a good team three times. Still, the Broncos are playing their third game in three days, while the Bulldogs are only on their second, and it was a relatively easy win last night.
I’m grabbing Gonzaga here to win the WCC Tournament, and I’m fine laying the points.
