Cyclist Unknowingly Celebrates Win With One Lap Remaining
Premature celebrations usually elicit cringes, unless the athlete was being cocky and deserved the humbling. Yesterday's case of Spaniard cyclist Eloy Teruel just makes you feel bad for him.
Teruel was leading in the seventh stage of the Tour of California, but he apparently lost count of how many laps were left, sitting upright on his bike and celebrating as he crossed the line. The commentators realized this, but could do nothing but watch as Teruel figured out his mistake. Unfortunately, by the time he did, the pack had caught up to him. He finished the stage in 56th place.
At least Teruel was able to laugh at himself later.
