Mandatory Credit: Allan Henry-USA TODAY Sports Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw departed in the second inning Friday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks due to pain in his left big toe.
The left-hander exited after Corbin Carroll ripped his second pitch of the inning -- a 67 mph curveball -- just inside the right field foul line for a homer.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and a trainer came out of the dugout and Roberts called for a reliever. Right-hander Joe Kelly replaced Kershaw and received as much time as needed to warm up.
Kershaw allowed three runs, three hits and one walk while recording three outs on Friday.
Kershaw didn't make his season debut until July 25 after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery in November. He entered the game 2-2 with a 3.72 ERA in seven starts this season.
Kershaw is a three-time National League Cy Young Award winner and the 2014 NL MVP. He has spent all 17 of his major league seasons with the Dodgers.
Carroll is 6-for-9 with three homers against Kershaw.
