Mandatory Credit: Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports Emmanuel Boateng scored in the 81st minute and the New England Revolution won back-to-back matches for the first time this season, defeating the visiting New York Red Bulls 1-0 on Saturday night at Foxborough, Mass.
Boateng, a substitute in the 69th minute as a midfielder, scored his first goal of the season.
Goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic made five saves for the Revolution (4-10-1, 13 points), who recorded their third shutout of the season.
Red Bulls goalkeeper Ryan Meara made three saves. The Red Bulls (8-4-5, 29 points) had won two straight matches.
The goal came on a sequence that was set up by Carles Gil's charge down the right side. He sent a cross into the box, with the ball sailing behind the reach of every player except for Boateng.
He was unmarked and in position to convert with a left-footed kick. Meara tried to reverse his steps to the right, but he couldn't make the stop as the ball bounced past him even though he appeared to get a hand on it.
The teams combined for three shots on goal in the first half.
New England had possession for 58.1 percent of the match, compared to 41.9 percent for New York. But the Red Bulls had more total shots (15) and shots on goal (five), than the Revolution (13 and four).
The outcome avenged a 4-2 loss suffered by New England on May 11.
The Revolution, who have the fewest points in the Eastern Conference, were coming off a 2-1 road victory against Nashville SC.
The Red Bulls return home to face Nashville on June 15. That same day, the Revolution will host the Vancouver Whitecaps.
