Eric Murdock Sues Rutgers, Just Like He Promised
Former NBA player and Rutgers assistant Eric Murdock filed his long-awaited wrongful termination lawsuit against Rutgers today, claiming he was fired for attempting to blow the whistle on former coach Mike Rice. Rice was let go earlier this week, a day after Murdock's video was made public.
The complaint, which can be found below, alleges his "termination was the direct result of Mr. Murdock's complaints and report of Defendant Rice's unlawful conduct." It names as defendants the university, Rice, school president Robert Barchi, former president Richard McCormick, and former athletic director Tim Pernetti, who resigned today.
The suit asks for unspecified damages, and has been expected for a while. It was timed to coincide with ESPN's airing of the tape for maximum PR effect.
