The Raiders Have Already Cut Their 2013 Fourth-Round Pick
As the deadline for 53-man rosters came to a close, the Oakland Raiders made unique decisions while cutting players. In this case, "unique" doesn't necessarily mean "good."
General manager Reggie McKenzie opted to keep undrafted rookie Matt McGloin over 2013 fourth-round pick Tyler Wilson as the third quarterback behind Terrelle Pryor and Matt Flynn, which isn't exactly exuding confidence about this season's class.
McGloin saw 60 snaps in the preseason as opposed to Wilson's 42, according to Pro Football Focus, and he apparently did enough with them to warrant a spot. The Raiders actually kept four quarterbacks through Saturday before cutting Wilson today, maybe to get him onto the practice squad.
Even with this move, it's still a battle between Pryor and Flynn for the starting job. Pryor looked great against the Bears, but doubts crept up again in the final preseason game against the Seahawks when he completed three passes on eight attempts for just 31 yards and an interception. (Pryor also ran three times for 48 yards, though.) Head coach Dennis Allen has yet to announce a starting quarterback for Week 1. So, Oakland's situation could probably be better a week before kickoff.
