Exiled-MLBer Yasiel Puig in Venezuelan Baseball League brawl
credits: [object Object] Former MLB outfielder Yasiel Puig — no stranger to fights — was seen getting hit and throwing punches during a bench-clearing brawl in Venezuela last week.
The fight happened after Puig’s Tiburones de La Guaira teammate Maikel Garcia hit a go-ahead, two-run shot during the eighth inning of Game 2 of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League’s championship series against Tiburones de La Guaira.
Garcia seemed to be showboating too much for his opponents’ liking, and the dustup ensued. Surprisingly, no one was ejected, and Tiburones de La Guaira won 12-10.
After outlets like TMZ Sports, Daily Mail, and the New York Post published stories on the game and the fight, Puig took to X to tell his side of the story and call out the publications for sharing “false news.”
Puig, 33, hasn’t played in the majors since 2019. He came up with the Los Angeles Dodgers, finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting in 2013. Puig also played for Cincinnati and Cleveland. Since then, the outfielder has played in the Dominican Republic, and South Korea, before ending up in Venezuela.
In 2022, Puig pleaded guilty to lying to federal law enforcement officials about sports bets he placed with an illegal gambling operation. He secretly settled with two women who accused him of sexual assault, according to the Washington Post.
