Giancarlo Stanton Got Drilled In The Head With A Fastball
Giancarlo Stanton, the Marlins' best player and only hope of selling tickets, took a ball to the dome during a simulated game this afternoon. The offending pitcher? Jose Fernandez, Miami's first pick in 2011 and their top young arm. Fernandez has been sent to Jeffrey Loria's zinc mines in the DRC.
No! Stanton's fine. He says he "saw a little grayness, fuzziness on the outside of my eyes," and has a sore neck. But nothing that feels like a concussion. He's getting some x-rays done and doesn't expect to be out a significant amount of time. Fernandez apologized to him immediately after.
"Right when I came in, I talked with him," Fernandez said. "When I asked him how he's doing, he laughed. He said he is fine. I told him, I'm sorry. You know, nobody is trying to hit anybody. Same team and everything. He just laughed, said, 'Bro, it's baseball. It happens.'"
Left unsaid: do it again, and David Samson isn't above doing horrible things to your family. Bro.
