Grading Every WWE Championship Heading Into the Road to WrestleMania
We are less than a week away from Saturday Night’s Main Event and two weeks until the Royal Rumble. That means we are on the precipice of the ‘Road to WrestleMania’. It is time for a deep dive into each title and look at the state of each division.
Each belt/division will be graded and ranked best to worst as we examine the WWE product before the hottest period of the calendar year.
Men’s United States Championship: A+
The men’s US championship has been booked phenomenally in the last year. Carmelo Hayes is the current champion and has continued the “US Open Challenge” tradition. No matter who the champ is, these matches always steal the show on Friday Night SmackDown.
The likes of Leon Slater, Shinsuke Nakamura, Johnny Gargano, and Ilja Dragunov have all faced Hayes. Each has fallen short, but given the WWE fans something to look forward to each week on the blue brand.
Women’s Tag Team: A
When these belts were introduced, WWE handled them poorly. To the point that champions at the time, Sasha Banks and Naomi, walked out of the company. Only Naomi returned years later.
Fast forward to now, and this division is on fire. Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky are the champs, and there is so much star power overall. Alexa Bliss/Charlotte Flair, Nia Jax/Lash Legend, the Kabuki Warriors, the Judgement Day, and Bayley/Lyra Valkyria.
Where we go from here is anyone’s guess, but let us appreciate what we have now before they split everyone up.
Women’s Intercontinental: B+
Becky Lynch is the champion once again, and for reasons unknown, is facing Maxxine Dupri in a rematch on Monday Night Raw.
Lynch has made this belt feel so important and has given it a certain prestige. Doubtful Dupri wins it back, but despite the two facing each other so much, the belt still feels valuable.
The likes of Ivy Nile, Natayla, and Raquel Rodrigues have challenged for the title but fell short. Expect Lynch to face AJ Lee, whenever she returns, for the title at WrestleMania.
WWE Undisputed: B
WWE finally pulled the trigger, and Drew McIntyre got his moment in Germany when he became the Undisputed Champion. For him, it was special, as he had not held the belt for long before.
Drew got a strong reception from the London fans this past Friday Night. There is a fatal-four-way match at Saturday Night’s Main Event this weekend to determine who faces the Scottish Warrior at the Royal Rumble.
Trick Williams, Sami Zayn, Randy Orton, and Damien Priest will square off, looking to be the victor.
It is nice to have a new champ and challenger heading into the greatest stretch of the year. For a while, it was just Cody beating Drew repeatedly. It is great to see fresh blood lined up to get a bite at the new champ.
Intercontinental: B-
As for the IC Champion, Dominik Mysterio has been on the shelf with a shoulder injury. He sustained it on December 20th at AAA’s Guerra de Titanes event in Mexico.
Mysterio won the title from John Cena at Survivor Series in part due to the Judgement Day’s involvement. There aren’t any challengers as of now, but one WWE superstar could come up to the plate.
It’s rumored that Chad Gable will return at the Royal Rumble to confront El Grande Americano and reclaim his gimmick. What happens next is hard to say, but Gable is a workhorse who could give Mysterio a run for his gold.
World Heavyweight: C+
CM Punk won the title after a battle against Jey Uso at Saturday Night’s Main Event. He defended his championship against Bron Breakker, where Punk put Breakker to sleep after two GTSs.
Now it is a wonder who he faces next, but Breakker winning either the Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber and beating Punk seems inevitable.
Punk is great on the mic, but he lacks any real challengers. On Monday Night Raw, the champ will face Finn Balor in Ireland. It’s unlikely Balor will win, but at least WWE is giving us fresh matchups.
Women’s World: C-
When Stephanie Vaquer debuted in WWE, they strapped a rocket onto her back. She’s been a great champion since winning it.
That is where it stops, though. She had an underwhelming feud with Nikki Bella and is now tied up in a rivalry with Raquel Rodriguez.
If Liv Morgan wins the Royal Rumble, we could be looking at Liv vs. Raquel at WM 42. Highly unlikely to happen, but Vaquer’s reign has not been very eventful.
Women’s SmackDown: D
Simply put, Jordynn Grace is the only challenge for Jade Cargill. That is a problem.
Cargill has been stuck in filler feuds since defeating Tiffany Stratton. No one believes B Fab or Michin are worthy contenders for the coveted prize.
Let us hope WWE can give Cargill more to sink her teeth into in 2026.
Tag Team: Both get a D+
The men’s division on both Raw and SmackDown has been hard to watch.
WWE had to put the Raw tag belts on the Usos, who reunited out of nowhere. They beat AJ Styles and Dragon Lee, who were thrown together so Styles could get a tag belt around his waist before retirement.
The New Day has cooled off since turning heel. The LWO, Creed Brothers, and Los Garza are hardly on television. The Judgement Day is likely to be disbanded soon, and Los Americanos are a comedic act with no real purpose.
On the SmackDown side of the equation, the Wyatt Sicks have held the title hostage. After a profound debut, they have been stuck with lifeless promos and a dreadful tag division.
The Street Profits have mysteriously disappeared, and the MFT’s lack any kind of charisma. The Motor City Machine Guns do not get much of a reaction either.
Not sure how WWE plans to fix this decision, but taking the belts from the Wyatt Sicks is a step in the right direction.
WWE Women’s US: D-
Since there is little effort put into this belt, let us keep it short.
The booking has been abysmal for this division. Chelsea Green, the inaugural champion, saves this from becoming an F as her character has carried this division since the beginning.
Green lost the title to Guilia, who has not had any momentum since her debut. Zelina Vega, the only other holder in this division, was not given much of a story arc and dropped the title soon after winning it.
Let us hope WWE has some plans in store for this belt. Otherwise, it will be the most irrelevant title in the company.
As WWE hits the “Road to WrestleMania,” it is the most entertaining time of the year — where new stars are made, rivalries reach a climax, and surprises have the Internet Wrestling Community (IWC) buzzing.
Hopefully that means WWE is on its “A game” and puts some effort in their belts and champions.
