Greg Oden Will Try Another Comeback, And The Heat Are Interested
Greg Oden is the NBA's Greek tragedy—a body outwardly designed for basketball dominance, but with an internal structure woefully insufficient for the task. Oden hasn't played since his patella attempted to escape in 2009, and underwent his third microfracture surgery on his knees in February. He's been rehabbing, slowly but surely, while he takes classes at Ohio State. And he thinks he might be ready to play...just not this season.
ESPN.com reports that Oden will attempt a comeback, and that multiple teams—including the Heat, who are pretty much the perfect landing spot for a big man who can only play 20 minutes a game—are interested. The catch is that Oden wouldn't even be ready to practice until the fall. To lock Oden down now—and give him access to its medical staff—a team would need to sign Oden to a multi-year deal now, and stash him away until 2013 training camp. It's a gamble, but Joel Anthony is already a sunk cost.
