Mandatory Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images Gunnar Henderson hit a tiebreaking two-run home run in the eighth inning as the visiting Baltimore Orioles rallied past the host Chicago White Sox for a 4-2 victory Tuesday afternoon.
Henderson's fourth homer of the season came during a three-run uprising, with his blast off reliever Chris Murphy.
The Orioles stranded 10 runners through five innings and 14 for the game. Tyler O'Neill, who entered the game as a pinch hitter, had two singles for Baltimore.
Blaze Alexander and Taylor Ward hit back-to-back one-out doubles in the eighth as the Orioles tied the game off Jordan Hicks (0-1) before Henderson gave them their first lead with a drive to right-center.
Orioles starter Trevor Rogers lasted six innings, giving up two runs on six hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Yennier Cano (1-1) was the winner with one scoreless inning of relief.
Chase Meidroth drove in a run and had two hits for the White Sox.
White Sox starter Shane Smith worked 3 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit while walking five and striking out eight. All six Baltimore outs in the first two innings came via strikeouts, but those contributed to Smith's rising pitch count. He left after throwing 99 pitches.
Chicago's Sean Newcomb allowed one run in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
The White Sox scored in the third on Meidroth's run-scoring double followed by Lenyn Sosa's single for a 2-0 lead. The entire rally began with two outs when Derek Hill singled and came around on Meidroth's hit.
The Orioles pulled within 2-1 in the fifth on pinch hitter Ryan Mountcastle's RBI groundout. The first two Baltimore batters in the inning reached before a pair of groundouts helped produce a run.
Chicago put a pair of runners on base in the fifth but didn't convert when Sosa lined out to end the threat.
The game was moved up 4 1/2 hours because of concerns about Tuesday night's forecast for cold temperatures.
Baltimore will go for the three-game sweep on Wednesday afternoon.
