James Rodríguez Opens La Liga Account With Beautifully Struck Goal
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez may not have any understanding of soccer tactics, but he does know flash when he sees it, and Colombian World Cup standout James Rodríguez is certainly flashy. With Madrid up 1-0 in today's game against Deportivo La Coruña, Rodríguez took a pass from Karim Benzema at the top of the box. When three La Coruña defenders failed to close him down, Rodríguez hit this wonderful goal from 24 yards. It was his first La Liga goal.
Five minutes later Madrid was at it again. With almost all of the La Coruña team suicidally pushed forward, they were dispossessed and Marcelo hit a perfectly weighed long ball forward towards Benzema. La Coruña keeper German Lux came far off his line to deal with the threat, but only managed to trip Benzema. Lux probably would've been looking at a red card for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity, but Ronaldo was on the scene to score the surprisingly easy 35 yard goal, his second of the day.
