Jared Sullinger Arrested On Domestic Assault Charges
Celtics sophomore forward Jared Sullinger turned himself into police this morning, and was charged with assault and battery, malicious destruction of property and witness intimidation, after a weekend confrontation with his girlfriend.
Police were called to Sullinger's Waltham, Mass., home on Saturday. According to prosecutors, what started as a verbal argument about infidelity escalated into physicality.
The girlfriend called police later that day, by which time Sullinger had flown to Ohio. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
At a court appearance this afternoon, Sullinger was released on $5,000 bail. The girlfriend, who said Sullinger has "a history of abuse," did not want a restraining order put in place. The court ruled, however, that he cannot have contact with her without a third party present.
Sullinger, Boston's first-round pick out of Ohio State in 2012, averaged 6.0 ppg and 5.9 rpg in 45 games last year, before undergoing back surgery in January. With Kevin Garnett's departure, he is expected to start this season.
