Jemele HIll Apologizes For Her Mouth Again
ESPN columnist and "First Take" talking face, Jemele Hill, suggested that Kentucky fans would be satisfied with Charles Manson as their head coach as long as the team is winning. UK was offended, so, of course, Hill apologized to them.
Hill reportedly made a phone call to UK athletic director Mitch Barnhart for her Manson comment, one that was, according to sources, approved by her producers before hand. Yes, this was the second time Hill has crossed that imaginary, movable line at ESPN in regards to appropriate commentary. More importantly, it seems to suggest that ESPN has this odd please-don't-fuck-with-the-heavyweights-who-pay-us policy with their columnists and commentators. At least, when those heavyweights get irked.
Remember Scott Van Pelt voluntarily apologized to MLB commissioner Bud Selig after he made fun of his wardrobe on his radio show. Many suggested he was nudged into doing that because of the millions of dollars ESPN has/had on the table with MLB. Perhaps Hill was also forced to apologize (but not suspended) for the sake of good business relations. If ESPN keeps collecting major sporting events and league deals, it seems the network moves closer and closer to ridding itself of Sports Shouting forever. Pity.
