Mandatory Credit: Matt Marton-Imagn Images Jesus Luzardo pitched seven shutout innings and Kyle Schwarber and Brandon Marsh homered to lift the visiting Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-3 win against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.
Philadelphia evened the interleague series at one game apiece behind Luzardo's gem. The left-hander improved to 9-5 while spacing two hits, one walk and four strikeouts. He threw 62 of his 90 pitches for strikes.
Trea Turner, Schwarber and Marsh contributed two hits each for the Phillies, who withstood Chicago's three-run rally in the ninth, punctuated by a two-run blast from Lenyn Sosa.
Sosa and Edgar Quero had two hits apiece for the White Sox, who finished with just five total.
Philadelphia provided Luzardo with the lead in the second inning, capitalizing on a leadoff walk and Marsh double. Max Kepler and Otto Kemp followed with consecutive sacrifice flies to give the Phillies a 2-0 advantage.
The Phillies' attack pivoted from small ball to long ball in the third, as Schwarber and Marsh each connected for two-run homers against Chicago right-hander Jonathan Cannon.
Schwarber smacked his 37th home run of the season an estimated 441 feet. Marsh delivered his fourth long ball of the season four batters later.
Chase Meidroth reached on an error to lead off the game for the White Sox, one of two Phillies miscues, while Luis Robert Jr. worked the team's only walk.
Quero singled in the first and ninth for the White Sox and Sosa contributed a base hit in the fifth. Similar to the first inning, when the White Sox loaded the bases, the Chicago fifth featured a Phillies error that put two men on base, but the hosts couldn't capitalize.
Luzardo fanned Meidroth before retiring Austin Slater on a lineout to left.
Cannon (4-8) lost for the first time since returning from the injured list June 29 following a lower back strain. He scattered six runs and seven hits in six innings with two walks and three strikeouts.
Cannon has yielded multiple home runs in back-to-back starts.
