Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports Jose Berrios yielded one run in seven innings, Ernie Clement, Daulton Varsho and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. each homered and the Toronto Blue Jays completed a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels with a 9-2 victory Wednesday night in Anaheim, Calif.
Berrios' performance mimicked those of fellow starters Bowden Francis on Monday and Kevin Gausman on Tuesday; all three starters went seven innings and combined to allow only two runs.
Berrios (11-9) gave up a solo homer to Matt Thaiss in the fifth but nothing else. He allowed two hits and one walk while striking out five in 84 pitches.
Clement's two-run homer in the second inning gave the Blue Jays an early lead against Angels starter Tyler Anderson. Spencer Horwitz drew a one-out walk and scored on Clement's blast to left, his seventh of the season.
Varsho had three hits, including a three-run homer in the fifth that made it 6-0 and essentially sealed the win against the struggling Angels, who totaled just five runs in the series.
Guerrero hit a two-run homer in the ninth, his 25th of the season and his third hit of the game.
Anderson, the Angels' lone All-Star representative, gave up seven runs on six hits and four walks, striking out eight, in 5 2/3 innings, his worst outing of the season. It marked only the second time in 24 starts this season that Anderson (9-11), who entered the game with a 2.99 ERA, has given up more than four runs. His ERA rose to 3.30.
Toronto increased its lead in the third when Varsho doubled with two outs and scored on a single by Guerrero for a 3-0 lead.
Varsho's three-run homer in the fifth made it 6-0. Thaiss' solo homer in the bottom of the fifth got the Angels on the scoreboard.
Clement tripled to begin the top of the sixth and scored one out later on a sacrifice fly by Leo Jimenez, upping the Blue Jays advantage to 7-1.
The Angels scored a run in the ninth thanks to Ward's sacrifice fly.
